Abstract

Valsartan is a selective angiotensin type 1 receptor (AT1R) inverse agonist and is one of the most highly prescribed angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). Valsartan is used to treat hypertension, postmyocardial infarction, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and diabetic nephropathy. Adverse effects are generally similar to placebo. The most severe contraindication is to avoid use in pregnancy, as ARBs are fetal toxic, and drug–drug interactions include hypotension and increased potassium levels.
