Abstract

This article traces the emergence of postcolonial geography in the 1980s and the intellectual contributions it has made since, including reference to key thinkers. It discusses the relationship with postcolonial studies more generally and outlines the distinct lines of inquiry taken in postcolonial geography, namely: historical geography revisions of colonialism; contemporary studies of the geographies of postcolonial formations and expressions; and critiques of Western-centric geographical theory building and empirical scholarship. It also discusses the methodological legacies of postcolonial geography approaches.
