Abstract

Under identification and determination were ESR spectral parameters of silver particles stabilized by γ-irradiated aluminium silicate (AS) modified by magnesium, and containing an 109 Ag isotope. A paramagnetic Ag+2 complex was found to exist, as well as silver atoms occupying different stabilization sites. Quantitative correlations of paramagnetic silver particles stabilized in AS modified by magnesium were found to depend on the method of sample preparation, the irradiation dose and temperature. The kinetics of thermodynamic transformations of paramagnetic silver particles was studied within the temperature range of 77–373 K. A study of the interaction between oxygen and γ-irradiated silver-containing AS modified by magnesium revealed unambiguous existence of silver atoms on the carrier surface and silver atoms stabilized in the surface layer of the carrier, which do not react with oxygen at 77 K.
