Abstract

We are motivated by the Dirac string formalism to propose a new action for strings. This action is equivalent to the Nambu free string action with bare string tension μ0 ∼ (2π2/e2)δ2(0), with the addition of contract interactions among strings. A generalization of this action for extended objects of arbitrary dimension is also given. Finally, we discuss the generalization to non-abelian strings.
