Identification of sterols from the soft coral Dendronephthya gigantea and their anti-inflammatory potential
2017, Environmental Toxicology and PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Cholesta-5,22-dien-3-ol has previously been identified in the deep-sea scallop Placopecten magellanicus (Idler and Wiseman, 1971). Barnathan et al. (1992) reported the identification of several cholesta-5,22-dien-3-ol derivatives from the marine sponges belonging to the genus Cinachyreila. Ergosta-5,22-dien-3-ol shows moderate anticancer effects against Dalton's lymphoma ascites cells and has been reported in the soft coral Subergorgia reticulate (Byju et al., 2014).
Chemotaxonomic study of the demosponge Cinachyrella cavernosa (Lamarck)
2015, Biochemical Systematics and EcologyCitation Excerpt :A remarkable amount of cholesta-5, 22(E)-diene-3β-ol (3.8%) with minor amount of the corresponding (22Z) isomer (0.6%) was also present in the mixture. This is coherent with those reported previously for other sponges of genus Cinachyrella (Bergquist et al., 1980, Barnathan et al., 1992, 2003), except for variation in their proportion (Table 2). However, Δ5 sterols do not provide sufficient taxonomic information since they are common in marine invertebrates (Barnathan et al., 1992).
