In addition to the beneficial effects, the inappropriate activation of apoptosis may contribute to the pathogenesis of many diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, autoimmune diseases, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and resistance to chemotherapy (Venatier et al., 1996). It's characterized especially by morphological features of cell shrinkage and membrane blabbing.
