Since suitable recombinant systems that stably express human muscle-type (α1β1δε) nAChRs in reasonable amounts were unavailable, investigations on receptor interactions were carried out with Torpedo electroplax membranes, a rich source of the αβδγ nAChR subtype localized at the neuromuscular junction [23]. Torpedo nAChRs show a high degree of homology with human muscle-type nAChRs [24].
