Abstract

We present results of a simulation of the kinetics of crystal growth for a small disequilibrium Δμ between fluid and crystal close to the roughening temperature TR in the kinetic BCSOS model. Growth modes, the corresponding growth rates and the surface roughness are investigated. The results are consistent with both renormalization group calculations and experiments on solid helium. As expected, we observe a gradual change from layer-by-layer growth to continuous growth; the characteristic temperature for this transition decreases with increasing Δμ. This is connected with the increase of the growth rate for finite δμ just below TR. The dependence of such effects on disequilibrium and on system size is also analyzed.
