Vitamin D3 has in most studies been identified after UVB-exposure (Aburjai et al., 1996; Björn & Wang, 2001; Jäpelt et al., 2011; Zucker et al., 1980), but was also identified in non-UVB-treated S. glaucophyllum and S. lycopersicum in the present study. This is in accordance with Curino et al. (1998) who identified vitamin D3 in S. glaucophyllum cultured in darkness.

The level of vitamin D3 in the UV-treated samples found here is comparable to what has previously been found (Aburjai et al., 1996).
