Abstract

The properties of optical fiber-grating compressors have been investigated numerically, considering fibers ten times longer than in previous studies. It is found that such long fibers yield substantially better compression than the previously investigated short ones. Also considerde are the sensitivity of pulse shape on the compression by using Gaussian-, parabolic- and sech- shaped pulses as initial conditions.

Particularly the pulse shape replicates its spectrum profile and the chirp becomes linear. In this regime the spectral width approaches its maximal asymptotic value leading to the saturation of the pulse compression factor [17] and the achievement of maximal compression [18]. We term this regime a steady-state one, because both the pulse temporal profile and the spectral profile are changing very slowly and they tend actually to the some limit.
