Atypical presentations of ectopic pancreatic tissue
2020, Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case ReportsCitation Excerpt :Because of its incidental finding and a very often asymptomatic clinical course, EPT is frequently not diagnosed adequately at first [3]. Although Caberwal et al. reported the first documented case of umbilical EPT already in 1977 [24] and the umbilicus seems to be the second most common location in our literature review [16,18,21–28,30–32], even in our 2 patients the diagnosis came as a surprise. The prevalence of remnants of the omphalo-mesenteric duct is described in literature in 2% of the population, although most of them remain asymptomatic [23].
Surgical abdominal exploration in children with umbilical ectopic gastrointestinal tissue
2019, Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case ReportsCitation Excerpt :Of these 3 cases, the first underwent abdominal computed tomography, which demonstrated no anomaly [6]. The second case underwent an intravenous urogram, voiding cystourethrography, upper gastrointestinal series, and technetium pertechnetate scan and all examinations showed no specific findings [3]. The third case underwent abdominal ultrasonography and dye injection into the sinus, both of which showed no structural anomaly [7].
Induction of acute ectopic pancreatitis by endoscopic ultrasound with fine-needle aspiration
2014, Clinical Gastroenterology and HepatologyCitation Excerpt :Most EP cases are asymptomatic and require no treatment. Approximately 100 symptomatic cases have been published in the literature describing various complications including AEP, pseudocyst, a palpable abdominal mass, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, gastric outlet obstruction, and adenocarcinoma.2,8–14 For such cases, resection is advocated to relieve and/or prevent symptoms, or when the diagnosis is uncertain.
