Abstract

The results of an EPR study of TMFG separately doped with Ti3+, Cr3+, Fe3+, Mn2+, Co2+ and Cu2+ ions are presented. These ions are octahedrally coordinated; for Ti3+ and Cu2+ the octahedra are tetragonally distorted. Spin-spin interactions give rise to a strong concentration and temperature dependence of the EPR spectra for Cr3+, Fe3+ and Mn2+; moreover, for these ions a zero field absorption is observed (consistent for Cr3+ with a large single crystal field parameter distribution).
