Intravitreal connective tissue growth factor neutralizing antibody or bevacizumab alone or in combination for prevention of proliferative vitreoretinopathy in an experimental model
2021, Experimental Eye ResearchCitation Excerpt :Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is a pathologic process in which collagenous membranes containing ectopic cells are generated in the vitreous and on the surface of or beneath the retina. Ectopic cells are predominantly retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, glial cells, fibroblasts, and cells with myofibroblastic transformation (Mietz and Heimann, 1995; Machemer and Laqua, 1975; Van Horn et al., 1977; Smith et al., 1976; Pastor et al., 2016). Fibroblasts and myofibroblasts produce collagen fibers, which result in contraction, wrinkling and stiffening of the retina.
