2022, Radiology Case ReportsCitation Excerpt :Our case is the youngest case of PC apoplexy in a male, the first pediatric case of pineal apoplexy in Saudi Arabia, the first one secondary to severe cranial trauma, and the first to present with persistent anterograde amnesia or memory loss, to the best of our knowledge. The etiology of PC apoplexy is still unclear, and many potential precipitating factors have been implicated in other case reports: therapeutic anticoagulation [8,9], vascular malformation [10], hypertension [11], and degenerative changes in the PC [12,13]. In our case, the pineal apoplexy was likely secondary to trauma, but this was missed initially on imaging.

The infratentorial supracerebellar approach used was consistent with past reported cases with favorable outcomes.12,16,26,30 Four previous cases that attempted to manage pineal cyst-associated hydrocephalus with ventricular shunting resulted in the need for later surgical resection17,18,27 or aspiration23 because of infection of the shunt or persistence of symptoms.
