2018, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - BiomembranesCitation Excerpt :The third exon codes for amino acids of the mature IAPP peptide, the untranslated region (UTR), and the C-terminal propeptide [13]. Van Mansfeld et al. have reported the presence of a TATA-box at the 5′ upstream flanking region of the first exon [14]. Mutational studies showed that proximal sequences controlling the tissue-specific expression of hIAPP are between bases −2798 to +450, with the −222 to 450 segment playing a crucial role, as mutations in this region completely terminate the expression of the gene.
