Do polychlorinated biphenyls cause cancer? A systematic review and meta-analysis of epidemiological studies on risk of cutaneous melanoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma
2017, ChemosphereCitation Excerpt :A high exposure to PCBs, and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) occurred in people who ingested rice oil contaminated by these chemicals in the so-known “Yusho” and “Yucheng” incidents, which occurred in Japan in 1968 and in Taiwan in 1979. The estimated intakes of total PCBs and PCDFs were about 1–2 g and 3–4 g, in the episodes, respectively, with an overall daily TEQ intake in Yusho poisoning of 154 ng/kg/day, about 10000 times higher than the daily intake of the general population (1–19 pg/kg/day) (Masuda, 1996). In the Yucheng patients, the blood levels of total PCBs were up to 1156 ng/ml, about 1000 times higher than the general population (Hsu et al., 1985, 2005).

2012, Environment InternationalDental caries in Faroese children exposed to polychlorinated biphenyls
2008, Environmental Toxicology and PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Occupational PCB exposure of mothers has been linked to carious and mottled primary teeth in children (Hara, 1985), and excessive ectodermal defects (Ahlborg et al., 1992), including carious teeth (Rogan et al., 1988), have been reported in epidemic PCB poisoning. Children born to exposed mothers would have had both transplacental exposure and exposure through maternal milk, but co-contamination with polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) was largely responsible for the overall toxicity (Safe, 1994; Masuda, 1996). However, no correlation has been found between PCB/PCDF or tetra-chloro-dibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) exposure and caries in the Yucheng children (Wang et al., 2003), subjects accidentally exposed to dioxin in Seveso (Alaluusua et al., 2004), nor in long-term PCB-exposed children in polluted regions of Slovenia (Jan and Vrbič, 2000) and Slovakia (Jan et al., 2007).
