Abstract

Esterification reaction of organoiron complex with terminal carboxylic group with hydroxymethyl EDOT(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) and 2-(3-Thienyl) ethanol produced EDOT and thiophene monomers. The electrochemical polymerization of these monomers led to new polymeric materials with the conjugated system as a backbone and the iron moieties pendant to the backbone. The polymer behaved as a conductive support and the metal group acted similarly to an un-tethered complex. The modified electrode surfaces were characterized via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to explore the capacitive properties of polymers. Further morphological characterization proved the thin film formation on the electrode surface.
