Hydrogen phosphide intoxication

Abstract

Containers are used for transporting products. In many containers from South East Asia a fumigant is added as pesticide. The fumigants used are very toxic for employees handling or transporting the containers. In our centre we saw more than 50 victims of gassed containers in two years. One of the fumigants is hydrogen phosphide. Many containers with the fumigant hydrogen phosphide are also holding solvents like toluene and benzene used in the production processes of the products. We will present 4 cases of victims of containers with hydrogen phosphide.

Zusammenfassung

Viele Container aus Südostasien sind mit Pestiziden begast. Diese Begasungsmittel sind sehr giftig für die Beschäftigten, die diese Container be- und entladen oder transportieren müssen. Im ECEM wurden innerhalb der letzten zwei Jahre mehr als 50 Opfer von begasten Containern gesehen. Eines der Begasungsmittel ist Phosphin. Viele der mit Phosphin begasten Container enthalten zudem Lösungsmittel wie Toluol oder Benzol, die bei der Produktherstellung verwendet wurden. Es werden vier Opfer von Phosphinintoxikationen vorgestellt.
