Summary

Remoxipride is a recently developed benzamide derivative with well established antipsychotic efficacy. Several other antipsychotic compounds have been shown to induce alterations in water and electrolyte balance due to an effect on the secretion of antidiuretic hormone (ADH). 11 healthy male volunteers (mean age 33 years) participated in a double blind, placebo controlled, crossover study to investigate whether remoxipride interacts with the secretion of ADH following fluid restriction.

The subjects received 100mg remoxipride or placebo as single oral doses. No differences were observed between the two treatments with regard to effect on ADH secretion, urine volume, serum or urinary concentrations of electrolytes, creatinine or osmolality. In conclusion, remoxipride in a single oral dose of 100mg has no influence on the secretion of ADH or ADH regulated concentration mechanisms in healthy volunteers.
