Medical and biological engineering Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Variations in ventilatory parameters between the supine and standing positions were studied using a data-processing apparatus designed for respiratory studies. Three significant changes were observed:

  1. (1)

    the anatomic dead space increased in the standing position;

  2. (2)

    the end-tidal carbon dioxide concentration was lower in the standing than in the supine position; and

  3. (3)

    the rate of excretion of carbon dioxide was lower in the standing than in the supine position during the period of this study (5 min per position).

Sommaire

  1. (1)

    L'espace d'air mort anatomique augmente en posture verticale;

  2. (2)

  1. (1)

    der anatomische Totraum ist im Stehen erhöht;

  2. (2)
