Blood component preparation in single plastic bags

Summary

Transfusion medicine today means the administration of blood components. Preparation of components can most economically be done with single rather than double or triple plastic bags, using a so-called “open” system. We have been working with such an open system for several years with no contamination problems. We feel there is no reason for the limitations placed on such preparation methods, and these restrictions should be closely re-examined.

Zusammenfassung

Transfusionsmedizin aus heutiger Sicht heißt gezielte Verabreichung von Blutbestandteilen an Stelle von Vollblut. Die Fraktionierung von Blut ist auf ökonomische Weise in Einfachbeuteln möglich, so daß das umständliche und teure Hantieren mit Mehrfach-Blutbeutelsystemen nicht notwendig ist.

Die Erfahrungen, die wir in unserem Institut im Verlaufe mehrerer Jahre sammeln konnten, lassen den Schluß zu daß die in manchen Ländern bestehenden Vorschriften, die ein Präparieren im sog. offenen System verbieten, revidiert werden sollten.
