Abstract

The kinetics of aqueous polymerization of acrylamide and methacrylamide initiated by potassium peroxydiphosphate has been investigated. The kinetic orders with respect to peroxydiphosphate and monomer were close to 0.5 and 1 respectively. Overall activation energies were computed and a suitable kinetic scheme suggested. Comparison with kinetic studies of the analogous acrylamide polymerization by peroxydisulphate shed doubt on the cage effect interpretation of the complex order with respect to monomer.
