Summary

The authors discuss which type of antibodies, the circulating or the tissue-bound antibodies, are important in the pathogenesis of fixed drug eruptions (FAE). Observation of some pertinent cases and results of epicutaneous tests support the hypothesis that in FDE the tissue-bound antibodies are of main importance.

Histologic examinations of different stages of FDE are rather indicative of the antigen-antibody reaction taking place in the cutis, not in the epidermis.
