Accuracy of meteo-oceanographic data from spar buoys

Il Nuovo Cimento C

Summary

The accuracy of the meteo-oceanographic data collected from a spar buoy is discussed. First the influence of the structure is analysed, evaluating the consequent modification of the wind and current fields. Then the motion of the buoy is split into its components and quantified with respect to wind, current and waves. The influence of each component of motion on the measurement of different parameters is evaluated. Finally the possibility of estimating the data accuracy from the data themselves is pointed out.
