Summary

2-Alkyl-2-(cyclohexen-1-yl)-phenylacetonitriles and 2-alkyl-2-cyclohexyl-phenylacetonitriles were prepared from cyclohexylidene-phenylacetonitriles and 2-cyclohexyl-phenylacetonitrile, respectively, by alkylation with alkyl halogenides using sodium amide in liquid ammonia. The products were separated by gas chromatography using five stationary phases of different polarities, such as Apiezon L, SE-30, OV-17, Carbowax 20M and FFAP. The conditions for separation and determination of these high boiling nitriles were studied.
