To the memory ofLothar Heffter on his centenary on 11 June 1962

Geheimrat Heffter's lectures, in 1928–29, on Analytic Geometry were the author's first introduction to university mathematics. The present note was completed during the last days of Lothar Heffter's life; he died on 1 January 1962, in his 100th year.
