Abstract
Linear dimension, gravimetric and histological data on muscle in bream parasitised by the plerocercoid larva ofLigula intestinalis are presented. Infection in fish with a parasitisation index above 5% results in a lowered muscle component in the parietal body wall. The histological basis for this was the presence of fewer muscle fibres. This effect was not demonstrable in the tail. Possible explanations to account for these observations are discussed.
