Abstract

A method for the synthesis of symmetrically substituted 2,2′-bipyrroles using the oxidation of α-unsubstituted pyrrole derivatives—in analogy to the oxidative coupling of phenols—is presented together with four examples. The mechanistic implications are discussed.
