Additional information

This paper is a report on work in progress rather than a finished piece of work. A first version was read at the Vancouver S. E. P. meeting in April 1983. Somewhat improved versions were read in May 1983 to the department of philosophy, University of Western Australia, and the Basser department of computer science, University of Sydney. The author wishes to thank Ray Jennings and his colleagues at Simon Fraser University for a splendidly organized conference, and John Bishop and Rich Thomason for helpful discussions.
