Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

On July 20, 2017, the State Council sent signals to the legal profession in its far-sighted national AI Strategy, “New Generation AI Development Plan.” First, while providing a forward-looking view of the landscape of artificial intelligence theory, technology and applications, the new plan also calls for strengthening the study of legal, ethical, and social issues related to artificial intelligence and establishing artificial intelligence laws and regulations, ethical norms and policies. Second, the new plan supports the construction of “smart courts” to promote artificial intelligence in evidence collection, case analysis, reading and analysis of legal documents, and to achieve the “intelligentization” of the court system. Finally, even more forward-looking is that the new plan proposes a new model of “artificial intelligence + X” hybrid professional training, in which law is prominently featured. Legal education is on the verge of transformation.
