Abstract

The launch of the Belt and Road initiative has created a demand for a large number of talented people imbued with good global vision and intercultural competence . It is of great significance, therefore, to consider how to make full use of this international initiative to develop Chinese students’ intercultural competence in this internet age. After a discussion of multimodal interaction in internet-mediated learning environments and a review of previous practice, this chapter explores how to conduct effective pedagogical design for intercultural education of students. Taking the online platform as an indispensable part, a blended instruction pattern can be constructed from a multimodal interaction perspective. The main purpose of this chapter is to introduce a pedagogical design using international and domestic affairs for students’ intercultural education, which is a practice of “internationalization at home.”
