Abstract
The binary Gliese 86 is about 11 pc away from the Sun in the constellation Eridanus in the southern hemisphere; a Kl main sequence star (= m 1) and a brown dwarf (= m 2) build this double star system. The masses of the two stars are m 1 = 0.79M ⊙ and m 2 = 50M Jupiter and the distance between these two components is at least 18.78 AU (Els et al., 2001). The discovered extra-solar planet moves in an orbit very close to the K1 V star — with a semi-major axis of 0.11 AU and an orbital period of about 15.8 days. From the CORALIE measurements a minimum mass of 4M Jupiter has been determined for this planetary companion.
