Abstract
Austrian electric utilities are engaged in noumerous photovoltaic projects. The main purpose of all these projects is to demonstrate the feasibility of photovoltaic electricity generation under realistic conditions with respect to insolation, meteorological conditions, high elevation and given local infrastructure. Great importance is given to the economic assessment of photovoltaic electricity generation with regard to its future competitiveness. This paper describes one of the major photovoltaic projects of Austrian electric utilities, namely the 30 kW grid-coupled photovoltaic plant in the Alps of Austria, and reports on experiences gained.
