Geostatistical Estimation of a Summary Recovery Index for Marble Quarries

Part of the book series: Quantitative Geology and Geostatistics ((QGAG,volume 5))

Abstract

A summary index reflecting marble recovery is calculated by applying Correspondence Analysis to a set of non-homogeneous attributes observed in the working faces of quarries. The index is taken as a Regionalized Variable and estimated by kriging in the blocks to be extracted. Once validated by real production data, which matches the kriged values of the index, it is possible to use it for the purpose of guiding the exploitation planning procedures. A detailed case study regarding two Portuguese marble quarries is presented, to illustrate the proposed methodology.
