Larva Migrans in Perspective

  • Chapter
Helminth Zoonoses

Part of the book series: Current Topics in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science ((CTVM,volume 43))

Abstract

Larva migrans, visceral or cutaneous, may be caused by a variety of ascarids, for example, Toxocara, Toxascaris, Baylisascaris, Lagochilascaris, Ascaris spp., as well as Capillaria hepatica in the case of the visceral form and various hookworms, but principally Ancylostoma braziliensis, with respect to cutaneous larva migrans. However, the parasite of major concern is Toxocara canis of the dog and its role in visceral larva migrans (VLM) and ocular larva migrans (OLM) of man.
