Abstract

Current imaging techniques of functional changes in the human brain permit studies with increasing spatial and temporal resolution of cerebral events related to mental activity (Ingvar and Lassen 1975; Ingvar 1985; Risberg 1980, 1988). The ultimate aim of such studies is to describe and quantitate, as well as to picture in two and three dimensions, the cerebral biochemical and/or circulatory ‘structure’ of thoughts and ideas, i.e. the neuronal substrate of ideation. The term cerebral “ideo-graphy” has been suggested for this type of research (Ingvar 1977).
