Built Environment, Physical Activity and Social Participation of Older People

Is Lifelogging an Effective and Valuable Assessment Method?

Lifelogging

Abstract

Evidence has been shown that physical activity and social participation contributes to (older) people’s health and well-being. The living environment is the space in which (older) people may go for a walk and, as a consequence, be physically active. It is also the place to meet others. Socio-ecological theories posit that elements of the built environment can foster or hinder older people’s physical activity and, as a consequence, their social participation.

This chapter provides background information about the research topic “built environment, physical activity and social participation” deals with the question, whether lifelogging, is an effective and valuable method to measure elements of the built environment, physical activity and social participation of older people and its relationships.
