Zusammenfassung
Verbrennungsmotoren basieren auf der Nutzung von chemisch gebundener Energie durch die Verbrennung von Brennstoff und Sauerstoff. Motorische Verbrennungsprozesse können nach verschiedenen Kategorien eingeteilt werden, zum Beispiel nach dem Brennstoff (flüssig, gasförmig, leicht-, schwersiedend, Entflammbarkeit), nach der Art der Gemischbildung (innere und äußere, homogen, heterogen) sowie nach der Art der Zündung (Fremdzündung, Selbstzündung).
