Zusammenfassung

Die Ursprünge der gegenwärtigen Praxis im Bereich der psychischen Gesundheit reichen zurück bis zu der im europäischen Zeitalter der Aufklärung eingeleiteten Erschließung von Vernunft und Wissenschaft. Bei der Suche nach wissenschaftlichen Beschreibungen der Seele und ihrer Störungen ging man von der kartesianischen Annahme aus, dass die innere Welt der Seele einen von der äußeren Welt des Körpers getrennten Bereich einnehme und gleichermaßen der Erforschung zugänglich sei.
