Abstract
This review has been written keeping in view the requirements of those workers whose interests in plants (including algae, fungi and bacteria) are mainly in the field of enzymology. To those specializing in organ or tissue culture of plants or other physiological aspects, the treatment of the subject matter under these headings may seem elementary and cursory, nevertheless, is important for those requiring just a working knowledge of the subject. Wherever complete treatment is not possible, reference has been made to the important and advanced publications in that particular field.
