Soot Formation from Hydrocarbons in a Plug Flow Reactor: Influence of Temperature

  • Chapter
Soot Formation in Combustion

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Chemical Physics ((CHEMICAL,volume 59))

Abstract

Soot formation in a plug flow reactor has been investigated. For this a secondary fuel (propane) is injected into the hot flue gas of a primary natural gas-air flame. Parameters varied have been temperature of the hot gas, secondary fuel concentration and residence time. From the dependence of soot volume fractions on temperature and secondary fuel concentration formal relations are derived. These relations may be used to predict the soot volume fractions and the formation rates under the conditions investigated.
