Abstract

Chemical carcinogens occurring in the environment are a major cause for human cancer. They include both substances arising from technical processes (e. g. polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as 3,4-benzypyrene, released during combustion) and such “naturally occurring” substances as aflatoxin, a metabolite of a mold fungus, and various carcinogens of plant origin.
