Abstract

This paper demonstrates by electron microscopy that interscapular brown adipose tissue (IBAT) is a target tissue of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzop-dioxin (TCDD) in rats. Because of the known importance of IBAT in energy metabolism, it is suggested that brown adipose tissue may be a major target tissue in the toxicity of TCDD.
