Abstract
A study of the literature on major accident and disaster medicine reveals two interesting points. The first is that anaesthetists are beginning to take an increasing interest in this field but the second is that publications concerning the relief of pain and suffering are relatively infrequent. Why there should be this apparent lack of interest in pain relief by the medical profession as a whole, and by anaesthetists in particular, continues to mystify me.
