Abstract
Tuberculosis of the joints of the upper extremity is not very common: 10% in most series, 14% in our own series. Tuberculosis of the elbow is the most common among cases affecting the upper limb. Lesions of the finger joints have been described recently. Tuberculosis of the upper-limb joints is rare, which probably explains the frequent diagnostic errors, as well as the fact that this condition is usually at an advanced stage when seen for the first time. In our series of 74 cases, 86% revealed an advanced stage of destruction when seen at first examination, while 67% presented with sinuses, in 42% of which a superadded pyogenic infection was also present. Thus, a definitive diagnosis must be obtained in the face of any subacute arthritis of the upper limb.
