Abstract
Functional imaging techniques are useful during diagnosis and evaluation of cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder carcinoma. They are accurate, noninvasive, robust modalities useful for staging and determining resectability. Response to novel targeted therapies can also be assessed with newer imaging tools. Metabolic and molecular assessment and exploration of other functional parameters such as diffusion of water by means of MRI are becoming the new imaging paradigm in the evaluation of biliary tract malignancies.
