Definition

Pericyazine is a first-generation antipsychotic medication that acts as a dopamine D2 antagonist. Pericyazine is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychoses and for short-term adjunctive treatment of severe anxiety, psychomotor agitation, and excited or violent states. It is a piperazine-phenothiazine derivative, and like other similar agents, it produces drowsiness and sedation. Hypotension is common when treatment is initiated. It is approved for use in Europe but not in the USA.
