Definitions

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are disease conditions that tend to be of long duration, hence, their alternative name, “chronic diseases.” They are mostly the result of a conglomeration of genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors. The most important NCDs are cardiovascular disease (including stroke), cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes.

First described in 1987 in the report of Brundtland Commission (World Commission on Environment and Development 1987), “sustainable development” is a concept warning about the negative impacts on the environment of economic growth and globalization and discussing the possible solutions for the problems caused by industrialization and population growth.
