Abstract

Joanna is a collegiate rower who is highly gifted. She was a contender for the US Rowing National Team, before her eighteenth birthday. She was a fierce competitor and able to push herself to extremes, from stadium climbs and long runs to grueling lifting sessions. She is the type of athlete others view simply as a “winner.” She receives little feedback from coaches about how to improve. She is mentally tough and emotionally steady. What is there to improve? The answer came from a question she asked me: “Is counting strokes all through a practice a good or bad thing to do?”

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.
