Abstract

Since the first published experience of capsule endoscopy in 2000, there have been exciting changes in the diagnostic and therapeutic rolls for endoscopy in small bowel disease. The first description of adouble-balloon enteroscope (DBE) was published by Yamamoto in 2001 and was subsequently developed by Fujinon Corporation. This technique offered reproducible deep bowel intubation with clinically useful success rates and has since allowed adaptation of a variety of therapeutic modalities to the previously out-of-reach small bowel.
